The Phylacine or Tasmanian Tiger was an apex predator living in Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea.

It looked quite a bit like a striped dog with an enormous jaw, but was actually a marsupial

and not closely related to dogs are wolves. The last known specimen died in captivity in a zoo in 1936.

Since that time, reports have continued to trickle in of people spotting them in the wild,

but despite rewards

posted of over a million dollars no further specimens have been found. I thought

it would be very interesting to play some audio of a thylacine during the

intro, but sadly none was ever recorded.
