Summary

Awaken My Love was a massive left turn for Childish Gambino and produced one of the best songs of 2016 in the form of Redbone.

Influenced by George Clinton's '70s band Funkadelic but with modern techniques, it made Rhys Nicholson "Horny... but not for sex".

1:14.5	Childish Gambino is the alias of Donald Glover. I mean, one of the biggest stars in the world right now, you probably all know, he's not just a musician, he's an actor, he's a stand-up comedian, he's a producer, he's a writer, he's a director. His previous albums as Childish Gambino were more rap-focused a lot of the time.
1:19.4	And this was a massive left turn for him, suddenly coming out with this kind of 1970s influence funk album.
1:25.2	Really inspired by the band Funkadelic, who, you can hear all the way through this record from the way it structured to the themes on it, to the musical influence, that he's really been listening to a lot of Funkadelic, but in a way that doesn't wind me up, it doesn't make me go, well, this is just derivative and a writer off because him and his collaborator Ludwig Gorinson
1:45.2	have done enough to the sound to make it sound modern.
1:50.0	It also features the single Redbone which is like one of the biggest singles of the year
