Episode 106 Rita Curran Part 1 of 2

The brutal 1971 murder of Rita Curran in her own bedroom rocked the tight-knit town of Burlington, Vermont. The circumstances of Rita’s death seemed so random – yet pointed to an insider. The mystifying slaying had no apparent motive and no good leads, and perplexed generations of frustrated investigators. The case was so out there, Ted Bundy was considered a viable suspect, with good reason. Fifty years later, modern DNA technology would reach back in time and give a name to Rita’s killer, helping finally to assuage the heartache of Rita’s family and allowing Burlingtonians to put the tragic murder in their midst behind them.

1:34.5	one in the morning on Tuesday, July 20th. Beverly came home and was ready for bed too as it was
1:39.9	1.20 a.m. and she tried to be quiet as she tiptoed toward the bedroom she shared with Rita.
1:46.5	Beverly did not turn on a light as she expected Rita was asleep in bed. Rita was not a sleep in bed.
1:52.3	Beverly went to her closet and that's when she saw Rita. Rita was lying naked and spread-eagled
1:56.9	on the floor, her tossed reddish hair still with some curlers clinging to it,
2:01.1	her face bloodied and battered. Beverly ran into Carrie in Paul's room screaming,
2:05.4	something is wrong with Rita. Using the apartment phone, Beverly dialed zero for operator
2:10.7	and requested the Medical Center emergency room. Upon hearing Beverly say there was a person
2:15.8	who might be dead at her apartment, the hospital connected Beverly with the Burlington Fire Department ambulance crew.
