If you've ever needed to have a prescription filled or to pick up cold medicine or even an emergency chocolate bar, chances are you've been in a right-aid pharmacy at some point in your life. The chain grew from a single Pennsylvania location and had become the nation's third largest retail drugstore chain by the early 80s. Last year, the company celebrated its 60th

birthday. But even then, there were signs that all was not well at the corner drugstore. The company

had a history of management missteps and failed mergers. Like many retailers, the chain experienced

significant losses during the pandemic, which added to its

debt, now totaling more than $3 billion, according to CNN. So it may not have been a total shock

that last week the company filed for bankruptcy protection and will possibly close hundreds of
