The Lost Words was conceived by writer Robert MacFarlane, an artist Jackie Morris, as a way of summoning back words disappearing from the tongues of young people.

From a glorious book of spells and pictures depicting these words, all from the natural world,

it grew into a musical project featuring folk musicians from Scotland, England and Senegal,

the Spell Songs Singers. An award-winning album and sell-out shows around the country followed.

Then COVID-19 hit and the breaks were put on devising the next round of songs.

That's until April 2021, when Robert Jackie and the singers were able to gather again to start

bringing the spells to life before a recording a second album, Let the Light In.

I was honoured to have been invited to that gathering in Keswick in the Lake District

in Northern England to capture this joyous occasion, made all the more special because

it was the first time face-to-face collaboration and music making of any kind had occurred

for over a year.

Let's begin with Robert as he sets the scene in this impressive location.

So we're sitting at one of the highest points in Keswick,

and so we got a sort of 360 panorama of the northern lakes around us.

We've got Catbells and Maidenmore, some of the most climbed hills in the lake
