Thanks for joining. Today, we're reading First Chronicles 20 through 24. But before we jump in, you need to know that today, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., we're celebrating

100 days of reading the Bible together as we progress through year of the word. And the 100th day

of the plan is technically tomorrow, but we're celebrating today. There's going to be bounce houses,

yard games, popsicles. You can bring your own lunch,

have a picnic with your kids, a coworker, or even your whole community group to join us as we

celebrate this milestone and get excited about spending the rest of the year reading the Bible

together. And don't worry, even if it rains, we are still having the event. We'll just move it inside to the town center.

So don't miss it. And the team and I look forward to seeing you later today. But all of that said,

we've got to get to First Chronicles. Today, again, we're in First Chronicles 20 through 24. Hopefully

you've already read the chapters. And we're asking a very specific question where did the

philistine giants come from like really these oversized warriors keep showing up goliath his brothers

these nameless men with six fingers and six toes what is going on why are giants in the Bible? And what do we do with them?

But before we jump to the giants, let's zoom out. First Chronicles 20 through 24 is about legacy.

David's legacy is king and God's faithfulness and bringing order to Israel's kingdom, temple, and worship. These chapters,

they may feel like a hodgepodge of war, worship prep, and Levitical Rosters, but they're

painting a picture of divine preparation. God is establishing a kingdom through David that will

ultimately point to Jesus. More on that later,

let's talk giants. Who were the Philistine giants? And First Chronicles 20 versus 4 through 8,

we see a strange and vivid account. It reads, and there was again war with the Philistines. And El Hanan, the son of Jair struck down Lahimi, all these crazy names, the brother of Goliath, the Gittite.

And there was war again.
