At the end of the last episode,

detectives, with the help of paralegal Mary Jane Markintel,

intercepted a letter Joey Smith had written to his former farmhand, a young man named Albert Lavalais.

And the guys call me at 4 o'clock in the morning time and tell me you're not going to believe this.

We've got a letter.

The letter pressured Albert to kidnap his older brother to prevent him from

testifying at Joey's upcoming drug trial. If he refused, Joey warned, he would implicate

Albert in a pair of murders for which he would likely receive the death penalty.

And there are two murders that are mentioned.

Not by name, just two murders that they would have been involved in.

When detectives called Albert in for questioning, he shocked them by admitting that he'd helped facilitate the murder of Joey's second wife, Sheila.
