0:50.3	Thank you. This is Crimes of the Centuries. In the Concentration camps of World War II, the Nazis killed six million Jews and one young woman named Anne Frank.
1:00.2	They also killed her sister Margo and her mother, Edith.
1:03.8	Her father, Otto, survived.
1:07.1	Anne suffered through incarceration and starvation, but her deduced cause of death was technically
1:13.1	of typhus, likely in February 1945, while held at Bergen-Belsen, the Nazi concentration camp
1:20.7	located in northern Germany.
1:23.4	The camp was liberated, a scant two months later, by British troops.
1:28.5	She had almost outlived the horror.
1:31.5	It was the second time she had almost slipped through.
1:35.1	You surely know this part of the story.
1:37.3	The Frank family, the Von Pell family, and a dentist named Fritz Pfeffer,
1:41.6	were found in a secret hiding space adjacent to her father's former
1:45.6	business and arrested August 4, 1944. They were held for four days in local detention. From there,
1:53.7	they were sent to Camp Vesterbork, a temporary transit facility. Selected for deportation, they, along with more than a thousand others, were shipped
2:02.9	to Auschwitz on the very last cattle car to leave Vesterbork. Jewish captives remain there,
2:10.1	with their numbers exploding until seven months later when Vesterbork was liberated in April
