Summary

You will have a mess of a life if you only follow the rules and don’t have actual wisdom in the area of money. Wisdom is not less than being moral and good; it’s much more. It’s knowing the right choice in the majority of life situations that moral rules don’t address. People who only look to the rules in the area of money are going to be destructively unwise in their lives. Proverbs shows three things you need to know to be wise in the area of money and possessions: 1) the power of money, 2) the reasons for the power of money, and 3) how to break the power of money and use it in your life. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on October 31, 2004. Series: Proverbs: True Wisdom for Living. Scripture: Proverbs 10:15-16; 11:1, 4, 24, 26; 13:21, 23; 30:8-9. 0:08.1	alone can't tell you what choices to make. You may be weighing several options in a decision and they all could be morally allowable.

0:18.0	That's where God's wisdom is critical.
0:20.0	Today Tim Keller is speaking about how we can grow in using God's wisdom.
0:27.0	The scripture this morning is from the book of Proverbs, the wealth of the rich is their fortified city,
0:40.0	but poverty is the ruin of the poor. The wages of the righteous bring them life,
0:46.3	but the income of the wicked brings them punishment. The Lord abhors
0:51.1	dishonest scales, but accurate waits are his delight.
0:55.0	Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
1:02.0	There's one who scatters yet increases more and there is one
1:07.1	who withholds more than is right but it leads to poverty. People curse the man who hordes grain but blessing crowns him who was
1:17.5	willing to sell. Misfortune pursues the sinner but prosperity is the reward of the righteous.
1:26.6	A poor man's field may produce abundant food, but injustice sweeps it away. and
1:35.0	give me neither poverty nor riches,
1:39.0	but give me only my daily bread,
1:41.0	otherwise I may have too much and
1:43.8	disown you and say, who is the Lord? Or I may become poor and
1:48.7	steal. And so dishonor the name of my God. This is God's word.
