I turn the key in the ignition and the headlights flicker and die. I leave the keys where they are.

We won't come back to the truck again. All right. Let's get on with it then.

We open the doors and Biel and I climb out of the cab.

A pillar of light splits the clouds.

For a wondrous instant, sunlight is visible through the smoke cover. Then, a mushroom

cloud erupts from the shattered earth, blocking out the vision and plunging us back into darkness. The ground shakes, but it takes several minutes for the shockwave to reach us.

It's a foul wind, but the air is already thick with fire and death. All right, everyone out.

We're leaving the truck here.

Six soldiers climb out of the back, carefully maneuvering a black metal coffin between them.

The creature inside shifts its weight and mows. None of the soldiers paid any mind, not even when the sound turns into scratching.
