Sometimes I know it sounds

I know it sounds dramatic and that death is death but when somebody breaks up with you

they're still alive and existing just choosing to do so without you.

And like you, I've been on the wrong end of a breakup, more than once.

I'm Meredith Goldstein, the Love advice columnist for the Boston Globe. This is love letters.

I've written the column for nine years, mostly from the couch in my pajamas. People write in and ask me questions and I answer

them. And over these many years, I've heard plenty of breakup stories.

I felt like got punched because he wasn't there then he's not here now it's over I had a

t-shirt that belonged to an X of mine I smelled that thing for you know two years.

Your baby doesn't love you anymore.

I was singing it and like almost started weeping.

But no matter how many letters I read or people I write to,

there's one question I have never been able to answer.

And it's a pretty simple one.

How do I get over a breakup?

Yeah, that's it.

That's it. This is terrible, terrible heartbreaking stuff.

How do we receive that and move on and know that it's going to be okay?

Is there some formula for getting over it that I as an advice columnist have been missing all these years?

Does hooking up with like six new people really help you forget what you lost?

Is stalking your ex on Instagram the thing that's holding you back?

Or is it just possible that this breakup is the best thing that has ever happened to you.
