Last week, the company formerly known as Facebook got some huge news from one of its top leaders.

Cheryl Sandberg announced that she will be stepping down from her role as the Chief Operating Officer

of Meta. Sandberg has been Chief Operating Officer at the social media giant for 14 years and

will continue to serve on the company's board. She officially resigns in the fall of 2022,

and the news is a big deal because Sandberg was one of the highest-powered executives in the

entire tech industry and sort of only second to Mark Zuckerberg in terms of her power at Facebook.

That's Rico Senior Correspondent Cherine Kafari, and in the day since Cheryl Sandberg announced

her departure, Cherine has been thinking about the legacy she'll lead behind. And well, let's just

say it's complicated. She helped you mature Facebook from a fledgling little startup into the,

you know, massively profitable business it is today. And she also was one of the few female leaders

in the tech industry, which is still heavily led by men. So on the one hand, she is a glass

ceiling breaker and a really successful executive. On the other hand, she has been at the center of

a lot of controversies and she's definitely had some PR blunders. So I think time will tell,

you know, ultimately what her final legacy will be.

Was it a big surprise to anyone that Cheryl Sandberg decided to leave meta now,

and is there a reason why she chose now? Why this year?
