Good afternoon, everyone. It's Dr. Niger again, our next episode of Psychology Unplugged. As always, a

forward to doing this every week and there's no you know there's no shortage or positive of

topics for us to cover uh i think the vast majority is everybody loves the personality

disorders so I'll probably

circle around back to those at some point.

Neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

We have a lot of students who follow us, and I have been trying to do a better job when I do

more of the clinical episodes, which is,

this is going to be more of a clinical episode of making, of organizing my notes and, and

preparing in advance with, again, I still go off on tangents, but today we're going to cover

something that I encounter quite frequently, uh, something I believe Julian encounter is quite frequently.

And I think a disorder that is definitely, uh, on the rise. And that is social anxiety disorder, or what is also referred to in the current diagnostic manual as

social phobia.

Certainly the advent and the speed of technology in terms of what you see on TikTok or Instagram, chat rooms, all the different, you know,

social media platforms really, I think, has negatively impacted a young adolescent population and social anxiety is something that can be

quite debilitating and it's a common referral question I get because it can look like other

disorders so let's go through the diagnostic criteria. All right.

First criteria is a marked fear or anxiety about one or more social situations in which an individual is exposed to possible scrutiny by others.

So it's a social situation where there is an evaluative component.
