Summary

Hi everyone, I'm taking a small summer break for a couple of weeks, so to cover the gap I have a few older patreon bonus episodes to put out for the main feed and give everyone a chance to hear them. Here is an interview I did with Professor Derek Abbott on the recent news about the Exhumation efforts in the Somerton Man case. Professor Derek Abbott is Director of the Centre for Biomedical Engineering at the University of Adelaide, Australia, Somerton Man expert and all-round bloody nice bloke. You can find out more about him here: http://www.eleceng.adelaide.edu.au/Personal/dabbott/ ---------- For extended show notes, including maps, links and scripts, head over to darkhistories.com Support the show by using our link when you sign up to Audible: http://audibletrial.com/darkhistories or visit our Patreon for bonus episodes and Early Access: https://www.patreon.com/darkhistories Connect with us on Facebook: http://facebook.com/darkhistoriespodcast Or find us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/darkhistories & Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dark_histories/ Or you can contact us directly via email at [email protected] or via voicemail on: (415) 286-5072 or join our Discord community: https://discord.gg/cmGcBFf The Dark Histories Butterfly was drawn by Courtney, who you can find on Instagram @bewildereye Music was recorded by me © Ben Cutmore 2017 Other Outro music was Paul Whiteman & his orchestra with Mildred Bailey - All of me (1931). Hello, welcome to Dark History's. Got something a little bit different today. I'm going to be on my summer break just for a couple of weeks.

0:10.0

So I thought I'd put out a bonus episode that was a Patreon bonus episode from a while back just to sort of cover that gap.

0:19.0

And it's an interview I did with Professor Derek Abbott of his researcher, pretty much the main sort of expert researcher on the summer to man case.

0:29.0

And I wanted to interview him because of the exclamation that was going on. So yes, I thought I would pop up this one on the main feed now so that give everyone a chance to listen to it.

0:42.0

I will say before you start listening to it, the whole interview was sort of done under the impression that most people, if you're listening to it, you have a kind of basic understanding of the case.

0:55.0

So if you're not sure about the summer to man, pop back, listen to it, season one is the episode sometime in season one.

1:04.0

Or to be honest, even just like a cursory read of a blog or the Wikipedia will give you a rough idea and that would be enough to sort of ground you for the interview, sort of give you a little quick refresh or something.

1:16.0

But yeah, the interview was carried out with the understanding that pretty much everyone knows that the ins and outs, like the rough ins and outs of the case.

1:24.0

So yeah, anyway, I hope you enjoy it and I'll see you in a couple of weeks for new episodes after same as I'm a break. Cheers.

1:34.0

Hello and welcome to a special episode of Dark History. It's got something a little bit different.

1:41.0

For a long time now, I've had people email me to ask me to go back to the summer to man episode and especially as it's a case that has progressed a lot since I first did my episode on the summer of man four years or so ago now.

2:00.0

And I always wondered how I could go back to it with sort of fresh eyes and talk about an update.

2:06.0

And so recently with the news of the exclamation, I thought what I could do rather than do a regular Dark History's episode.

2:15.0

I could perhaps reach out and speak to Professor Derek Abbott who is the basically the main researcher, the guy who's kind of pushed the exclamation for years.

2:27.0

And he was done the main legwork of the research in recent times, really sort of one of the biggest experts going on the case basically.

2:39.0

And he was kind enough to offer some of his time to speak to me a little bit about the case and his involvement up until now.

2:48.0

I did have a massive like dream of questions that I wanted to ask him.

2:53.0

And but it was actually see I think as we got talking it became quite apparent that really he sort of moved on from the wise and aware for the case.

3:04.0

And now he was really only interested in sort of finding out who the summer to man was through the DNA.

3:12.0

So a lot of those sort of became redundant as we talked, but still I think we started an interesting conversation.

3:18.0

So I hope you enjoy it.

3:20.0

Yeah, so this is me in conversation with Professor Derek Abbott.
