In Australia they received an MBBS. He went on from there to Manash, another great University in Australia in Melbourne and received his PhD in autoimmunity.

He traveled to Canada, was at McMaster University in Hamilton and set up programs in infectious disease and inflammatory bowel disease.

He returned to Australia set up the entire immunology program for the Prince Albert Hospital, really Micocial Immunity Program and then became a foundation chair in the Newcastle School of Medicine.

Why don't you just update us from your position at Newcastle? What have you been doing since that time?

I know you and your wife are close and you've done terrific things but just give us an idea of where you've been and what you've done.

Peter, I think you can probably relate to the fact that when you spend your whole life as an academic working in major hospitals and in universities, which is an enormous privilege.

You get to a stage, I turned 60 and I said, I want to keep doing these things but there are other things that I want to do.

I was very lucky. I as a medical student, I was one of two Australians that was invited down to Antarctica.
