Summary

Popcorn Talk Network proudly presents Profiles with Malone and Mantz! In this vodcast series hosts Alicia Malone and Scott "Movie" Mantz break down and focus on some of the most prolific Hollywood directors, writers and actors in the entertainment industry - past & present. In today's episode it's all about Stanley Kubrick. Stanley Kubrick was born in New York, and was considered intelligent despite poor grades at school. Hoping that a change of scenery would produce better academic performance, Kubrick's father Jack (a physician) sent him in 1940 to Pasadena, California, to stay with his uncle Martin Perveler. Returning to the Bronx in 1941 for his last year of grammar school, there seemed to be little change in his attitude or his results. Hoping to find something to interest his son, Jack introduced Stanley to chess, with the desired result. Kubrick took to the game passionately, and quickly became a skilled player. Chess would become an important device for Kubrick in later years, Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

And finally, finally, we're

going to talk about one of our favorite directors of all time, Stanley Kubrick. I am so excited

1:04.0

about this. We get to geek out about one of our favorite filmmakers for about an hour, maybe even

1:09.0

longer if we can push it. Why would you say he is

1:11.7

one of the most visionary filmmakers of all time? Well, that is a loaded question that we're going

1:16.1

to answer over the next hour. Tell me now. Maybe more. But since you asked, listen, this is a

1:21.9

filmmaker who's very mysterious, reclusive. A lot of people say he's a perfectionist, demanding. Obviously,

1:29.9

1:45.1

Kubrick your jam? He is my jam for sure because he can tackle any genre. And he does. He

1:51.3

tried all different genres and each one, as you said, was perfection because of the level of

1:55.9

detail. He did intense research for every single film. There is so much to look at in his movies. Everything
