Hello and welcome to Dark History season 8 episode 8. I'm your host Ben and today we're

going to be doing something a little bit different a few days ago I unfortunately

had to have my cat put down.

It kind of came out in the blue a little bit.

It hit me a lot harder than I was expecting actually.

And so the last few days I've just really struggled to concentrate on getting on with what I was supposed

to be doing which was the episode. So I decided what I'll do is I'll put that one back and I'll just take a few days off just to sort of

you know process everything but unfortunately taking those few days really messes

the schedule so yeah what what I'm going to do is just

move that episode onto the next week or next episode and for this week I've been

doing on the patron for a while now, been reading like bonus

episodes, been reading out old stories, old like ghost stories and sort of weird

fiction from the like either like like that's where I read a couple of stories. So yeah I hope you enjoy it.

So it's not what was planned or what you know what we normally have but you have to sort of

forgive me on that one and of course next episode will be business as usual. So yeah, let's get started.

The first story that I picked out is by a guy called E.F. Benson and he was a historian and a writer and a sort of amateur Egyptologist or like a lot of people around his time.

Egyptology was all rage.

You know, it seems like a kind of a strange thing,

isn't it, amateur Egyptologist.

Like, you know, I guess they're kind of like armchair Egyptologists.

But he had an interest in that and sort of more esoteric side of Egyptology as well, which, you know, actually now is, we look back, it's mostly fictional, but, you know, back then it was considered sort of like

archaeological you know now say it wouldn't be considered scientific at all but
