Last night, Leslie and I took our daughters to the Port Elmsley Drive-In Theatre,

one of the last of its kind in Ontario.

Now, there's lots to say, both about the films we saw and especially, the magical emanationist

downright neoplatonic mesonabim that is the drive-in experience. That'll have to wait for

I'm very excited about this course.

As I mentioned in the introduction to episode 152, I'm calling it Art in the Age of

Artificial Intelligence. Last week, I tacked on the subtitle, escapes from the mechanical

dollhouse, without intending the obvious reference to the Barbie movie, the headline last

night's double bill, a happy accident if there ever was one. The course is an attempt to think through some of the

philosophical, psychological, political, and of course artistic implications of the AI moment,

some early tremors of which I personally felt as far back as 1983 as I sat, interestingly enough,

in the back of my mother's snot-green Pontiac Sunbird at the Britannia

Drive-in in Ottawa, watching a supercomputer take over the world in Richard Lester's Superman 3.
