Once upon a time, there lived a witch, who had two daughters, but she favoured one over the other.

They were called Catherine and Eloise.

Catherine was the witch's stepdaughter,

and while the witch took her in,

she never treated the girl like family.

Instead, she was made to keep house, to cook and to clean and to make the beds, while

Eloise took to knitting and napping.

One day, Catherine wore a new apron she had made for herself.

When Eloise saw it, she grew envious.

It was a lovely apron, adorned with lace and velvet.

I should like that apron mother,' she said.

"'Hush, child, do not fret.

"'You shall have it.

"'It is time we sent Catherine away.

"'I shall place a spell, and we will be rid of her, said the witch.

That night, after the girls went to sleep, the witch placed a spell,

that she who wore the apron would be gone forever.

What the witch did not know was that Catherine had seen her sister's longing and had gifted her the apron before they went to sleep. So it wasn't Catherine who disappeared, but Eloise.

When Catherine saw her sister was gone, she was terribly frightened.

She knew right away it was her who the witch meant to do away with.

For all that was left of Eloise was the apron.
