Sydney Loof went on a date and never came back. After two persons of interest were named in her disappearance,

they posted a video to Facebook that would be only the first of multiple stories told.

I hope everyone's having a good week. The case we're talking about today is one out of Nebraska that I followed when it first happened. But somehow I did not know all of these details that I found when looking into it all at once and holistically.

We are going to start with Sydney Loof, who was born in 1993 in central Nebraska.

And around 2000, when she was seven, the family moved to Neely, which is a small town about two and a half hours northwest of Omaha.

Both of Sydney's parents were educators, and Sydney her two siblings grew up, prioritizing the school

community as their community. Sydney played multiple sports, but as she grew, something was not

quite right, and she was diagnosed with scoliosis, which is when the vertebrae form a curve

rather than being straight. Sometimes they can even corkscrew.

The most common form of scoliosis develops during puberty growth spurts, and that's pretty much

what happened here with Sydney. While scoliosis can have a range of severity, Sydney's was bad

enough that it impacted her ability to play sports,

and it did affect her gait a bit. I have a child who developed some health issues as a teenager

that limited her activities, and I know I can say all of the platitudes like Sydney didn't

let this slower down, but I feel like that would be ignoring

the private struggle that I'm sure she dealt with. So while Sydney found ways to do all of the

things she loved like fishing and playing golf, I'm sure she had her moments where it was just hard.

And I know that because my daughter had those moments, but a lot of the world did not

see that part. After graduating from high school, Sydney decided to move to Lincoln, two and a half
