This week, to mark 30 years since the 1992 election, I spoke to three men who saw it from

the front line Neil Kinnick, who lost the election for Labour, Chris Patton, who wanted

for John Major and Phil Webster, who covered it all as a political editor of The Times.

We also have a commoners panel with Melanie Reed from The Times and Josh Clancy from The

Sunny Times.

Firstly, give him more on the subject. What would you bring back for the 90s? Josh, I

imagine for you, it's Alex Ferguson, André Kinchelskis, Eric Cantanar.

I do my research.

And Manchester United as a proper purple team would be nice. I think the other thing I'd

probably bring back would be optimism, frankly, because I think we live in a very pessimistic

world nowadays.

And I remember the 90s as being quite, quite brimming with optimism.

So, yeah, optimism and furgist United as a precocious youngster were you reading Francis

Fuckiyama saying it was the end of history and looking forward to that long and happy

life.

Meli, what about you? What would you bring back for the 1990s?

Well, I was a young mum in the 1990s, and so I'm going to be unbearably soppy, I'm
