Unfictional is a program of true stories and personal documentaries.

And this episode is called The Big Day,

three stories about a wedding, a bar mitzvah, and a day of innocence lost.

For a lot of boys and their friends... and a bar mitzvah lost.

For a lot of boys and their friends approaching their 13th birthday,

the party following a bar mitzvah

will be the first time they will dance with a girl.

Maybe even the first time they will touch a girl who isn't related to

them. Well outside Detroit, Michigan, there's a dance studio that's called Joe Cornell Entertainment.

And since 1957, they've been offering a 12-week dance class to

sixth graders who are about to find themselves neck deep in Bar mitzvah invitations.

Producers Zach Rosen went to Joe Cornell when he was 12 and he and his friends have a lot of memories from back then.

And now, Zach found two young men who were just starting out on that awkward journey toward their big day.
