Summary

On this episode of The Cine-Files, Steve Morris and John Rocha continue The Season of the Coen Brothers by re-relasing their episode on THE BIG LEBOWSKI with a brand new intro from Steve and John. This film follows the life of Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski, a Los Angeles slacker and avid bowler. He is assaulted as a result of mistaken identity then learns that a millionaire, also named Jeffrey Lebowski, was the intended victim. The millionaire Lebowski's trophy wife is supposedly kidnapped and millionaire Lebowski commissions The Dude to deliver the ransom to secure her release. The plan goes awry when the Dude's friend Walter Sobchak schemes to keep the ransom money for the Dude and himself. It stars Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Sam Elliott, Julianne Moore, John Turturro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Tara Reid, David Thewlis, Peter Stormare, Jon Polito and Ben Gazzara. Steve and John deliver a brand new intro and go thru the movie scene by scene to break down the direction, acting, story beats, score, action sequences and more.

0:20.9	instructor in Los Angeles, California. Hello, everyone. My name is John Roker. I'm a writer,
0:25.0	producer, host, and voiceover artist here in San Diego, California. And I'm so excited to be
0:30.3	doing this new intro for this Cohen Brothers movie, Steve. We're talking about the dude here,
0:35.2	John. Yeah, the dude abides. The dude about, I think that this is a
0:40.3	magical movie. Yeah. I really think it's a movie. And I know we talked about it when we talked
0:45.4	about how we first came to the film. So I won't tell the story again, but I will say,
0:49.8	this is a movie that has grown on me over time and probably will continue to for the rest of my life.
0:57.1	Well, you know, we just finished having a fun discussion that I don't know when that's sure it's going to come out, but about like how artists evolve and changes they get older and how their older work needs to be revered with the same kind of respect and reverence as their younger work.
1:11.6	And you spoke about craftsmanship.
1:14.0	And when you're watching a film like The Big Lobowski, you can't help but marvel at the
1:19.1	craftsmanship of the construction of this movie.
1:22.0	There is no way that Cohen Brothers could have done this big Lobowski movie when they were making
1:26.6	Blood Simple or when they were making
1:28.9	Miller's Crossing or even raising Arizona, right? There are elements of that in this movie for sure
1:34.0	with some of the humorous moments, but there is a way that they take you on this kind of fantastical
1:39.5	journey that still is very ground-based in reality and what's going on in their world with
1:46.1	their interesting characters and weird situations going on, that although you go on these
1:51.0	fantastical tangents, you never lose sight of the fact that there's a real story being told
1:55.4	with real characters and real consequences to the actions that are going on in the movie.
