This time on Crime Salad we have a case for you that may remind you of some of your favorite horror movies or TV shows.

That's because this case was so terrible that it's really vents inspired and spun off some of Hollywood's best horror scenes.

So the next time you watch a scary movie and you try to tell yourself that this kind of stuff doesn't really happen in real life.

Think again.

While our past few episodes have been focused on more recent cases, the one we're going to be sharing with you today takes us back nearly 70 years.

But despite how long ago these events took place, the legacy of Ed Geens crimes lives on in popular culture today.

The interest in Ed's crimes comes from their unique and gruesome nature.

Many have attempted to dissect Ed's upbringing and psyche to better understand what led him down this dark and disturbing path.

Our story starts on December 8th, 1954 in Pine Grove, Wisconsin.

Mary Hogan, a 55 year old bartender, was finishing closing up the tavern she owned.

While she was working, she didn't notice a mysterious man who was waiting very quietly outside the bar.

When all of the customers had gone home for the night, the man casually walked inside and behind the bar to stand right next to Mary.

Before she could respond, the man raised a 32 caliber pistol to her head and fired. Mary died instantly.

The next day when a local stops by the tavern, he sees a pole of blood and immediately calls the police.

The investigators find some overturned furniture and they see a trail of blood that tells them Mary's body was dragged from behind the bar counter to outside, stopping in front where a car has been parked.

Some witnesses note seeing a pale green pickup truck but aren't completely sure.
