Wanda Webb Holloway was born in 1954 in Channelview, Texas.

A city described as rough, mostly white, working class, and even in the late 70s, was dominated by

the Ku Klux Klan. Despite this, the residents are considered unfailingly polite and loyal to the

city where they grew up. At least, that's the case for most of the residents, and Wanda Holloway

was not one of them.

Growing up on the rougher side of town, she wanted more than what Channelview had to offer.

Described as an overachiever, Wanda took piano lessons, was an excellent student,

and was constantly looking for the next big thing that would get her the leg up in this world.

One of those things was cheerleading.

Wanda was desperate to try out for the team, but her father refused to allow it,

considering the costumes to Skimpy for his conservative religious beliefs.

With that particular dream out of reach, Wanda continued on her

path, but at the age of 18, married a man, Tony Harper, and abandoned all of her business education.
