I'm just frustrated, I'm so frustrated. I don't know what else to say but I've never had this happen.

There's nothing more in resting and vital than sitting in a courtroom and watching the drama of

justice played out for real. I loved it when I was a reporter, I loved it when I dropped in on

trials to do my research for books and I loved it when I could get in and see some of the trial

involving Pierre Romaine. There's a visceral feeling to it, the stakes are always high and you feel

that in your chest even if you were just the casual observer. People's freedom and reputations are

on the line. Our belief in the justice system is on the line. It's the arena where society decides

what is right and what is wrong, what is acceptable and what isn't. And punishment is

meet it out in moments that are as harsh as the echo off a slamming steel door. You sit in a

courtroom and watch a trial and you realize pretty quickly that this isn't like TV or the movies.

This is real. There's something about it that's not captured properly or completely or

accurately in those kind of popular modes of entertainment.

In California versus Pierre Romaine, the case had all this intrigue and a lot of it started

coming to the surface as the case progressed. Tempers flared and accusations were made.

When the lawyers are calling each other names, you know the passions are high and the stakes are

even higher. I love this stuff and it goes right in the memory banks for the next Lincoln lawyer

book I write. Now we're in the middle of the trial here. The prosecution is rest of

its case and the defense is about to start. As defense attorney Winston McKesson was fond of

saying, there's no pancake thin enough that it doesn't have two sides. Well we're going to get
