One of the biggest stories on the radical left today

is the sudden and explosive growth of Democratic socialists of America.

DSA was founded in 1983, but has deep roots in a homegrown socialist tradition

dating back to Eugene Debs and the Socialist Party of America.

Last June, ahead of the Democratic National Convention, DSA counted 6,500 members.

Today, in the wake of a historic and inspiring presidential bid from a self-proclaimed Democratic socialist and

Trump's utterly terrifying seizure of the White House,

membership has grown to more than 19,000 and counting.

People are considering socialism, long a dirty word in American politics, in far larger numbers

than they have in decades, especially young people who face bleak job prospects, heavy student debt, mass incarceration,

and an ecological crisis that threatens the very future of the human species.
