Dr. Khalid al-Sah is a surgeon at NASA Hospital in Khan Yunus in the south of Gaza.

He's used to dealing with complex and distressing situations.

But in 15 months of war, he's lived through things that no one should ever have to.

The thing that hurt me a lot is not the scene of shattered limb or like parts of the body collected a nylon bag.

These scenes, I used to deal with them as a general surgeon.

And we have to put our emotions aside to treat and to get, to make a good decision in a proper time.

Everyone in his community has been affected everyone.

One of my colleagues, Abdullah, he was freshly graduated.

He finished his internship, started to work in our hospital.

He volunteered since the beginning of the war.

One shift, they had a conversation that Dr. Khaled remembers well.

They spoke about the future. And Abdullah said he wanted to become a surgeon, maybe train in the UK.

After he left the hospital, just half an hour after that, he was brought to the hospital by ambulance.

I could not recognize him because he has a lot of bruises and lacerations in his face and his body.

When I tried to get blood for him to infuse him with blood, he shouted that my blood

group is a positive. It was only when he heard his colleague's voice that Dr Khaled recognized him,
