In the town of Livingston, California, 1970, an eight-year-old boy showed up at the police station

and told officers that his father had killed his mother and made it look like an accidental

drowning. He said it had happened in Louisiana in 1962 when he was only four months old.

Music Willie William Felix Vale, who went by Felix, was born on August 19, 1939 in Montpelier, Mississippi.

His parents, Ray and Nell Vale were dairy farmers, and he had four siblings. He was a decent student getting

good grades and he was a very strong farmer. He won a corn growing contest when he was 16,

producing 130 bushels on five acres, more than any other farmer in the county. His initial dream

was to become a pilot in the military, but he was turned

down by recruiters. They determined that he wasn't the type of person who would follow orders and would

likely be a disciplinary problem. His uncle helped him line up a job at a refinery in Sulphur, Louisiana,

and he moved before he even graduated from high school.

He would end up taking classes to get his diploma at a later time.

The job paid well, so he had a nice car and a motorcycle which he used to cruise the local college

campus and pick up girls. That's where he met Mary Horton.
