From KCRW, I'm Bob Carlson, and this is Unfictional.

Unfictional is a program of true stories, personal documentaries, and radio movies.

And all this season we've been featuring stories about perception,

trying to see things in new ways.

And so for this final episode of the podcast season,

what better way to close things out

than with two stories about failure.

It's an episode called The Dream is Over.

And these aren't small failures either.

These are lives full of sacrifice and hard work,

following your heart, believing in your dreams,

all of that stuff, dedicated to a goal

that will never be reached.

And in this first story, it's for a really, really dumb reason.

But if I've learned one thing from the stories on this season of unfictional,

reality is just a state of mind, and so are things like defeat and loss. We take you to a footnote

moment in the history of the Olympic Games when a scheduling mistake wiped out a

man's dream of a gold medal. From KCRW, it's unfictional.

An incredible thing has happened in the 100 meters here as we move to the second round, the quarterfinals. The know that the second round was going to be run this afternoon.
