cult and leading to the convictions of two men. But what happens when she later recants? I'm Charlie,

0:29.4

and welcome to crime lines. Hello and welcome to part one of the case that finally nearly defeated me.

0:44.7

This week we are going to be going into all of the cases all the way through the court cases,

0:49.0

and then part two will be a shorter episode on what came next and the question of what really happened here.

0:56.5

As usual, I'm only splitting this into two parts because I didn't finish in time to have

1:01.5

just one really long episode. So I will release part two as soon as I can and hopefully you

1:07.2

will not have to wait a week. This is probably the most difficult episode I've

1:11.6

ever put together to the point that I almost shelved it a number of times. The only reason I didn't

is that one, one of the victims never saw any form of justice, and two, there may be an innocent

1:25.3

man still behind bars 40 years later. As that last sentence came out of my

1:31.0

mouth, I realized that innocent may be doing some heavy lifting here. So I'll just say

1:36.0

innocent of the murder of which he has been convicted. The reason this episode was so hard

1:43.4

to put together was not just that the content was very heavy,

1:46.9

which it was. There are levels of exploitation here. Plus, I have my own biases as soon as the

1:52.6

word satanic cult come up. But really, there are just so many people and stories and moving parts

1:59.0

that I could hardly keep it straight. In fact, I am going to

2:03.1

absolutely mess things up as I present the case. I mean, I make mistakes all of the time. Sometimes

2:09.1

I misspeak and I say the wrong name or the wrong date. And sometimes I just flat out get a

fact wrong. Either I processed it wrong, I misunderstood it, I

2:18.1

misread it, I found it from an unreliable source and gave it too much weight. There are a number of
