Perimenopause can blindside us in unexpected ways. Fatigue hit this week’s guest, elite cyclist and coach Marissa Axell, so hard she thought she had cancer. Now the creator of the Cycling Success System wants everyone to know what can happen during this phase of life, and importantly what active women can do to counteract it. We talk all about how Marissa tailors her coaching for 40+ women, focusing on proper fueling, strength development, and smart exercise programming so they can keep crushing their active and athletic goals. You can learn more about her and her work at www.axnfitnessandcoaching.com

Marissa Axell is the founder of AXN Fitness and Coaching, LLC, and on a mission to get more women on more start lines! Welcome to Hit Play Not Pause, the podcast that is on a mission to help women not get so blindsided by paramedopause. They fear that they're dying. And seriously, it sounds like hyperbole, but one of the issues that comes up a lot on this show and in the menopause universe at large is women literally saying, I thought I was dying,

0:56.0

when they were suffering from, let's say, heart palpitations brought on by perimenopause,

1:01.8

or when they're experiencing any number of symptoms that can leave you worried that something is

1:07.9

gravely wrong with you, which is exactly what happened to this week's guest, Marissa Axel, who is an elite bike racer,

1:15.6

cycling coach, and founder of AXN Fitness and Coaching, who, out of nowhere, started experiencing

1:22.6

such bone-crushing, soul-sucking fatigue, she went to her doctor fearing that she had cancer,

1:29.5

which she didn't. She had perimenopause. Blind-sided, Marissa decided that she wanted to devote

1:37.3

her practice to helping women just like her, 40-plus active women who want to understand

1:43.2

what's happening and still want to crush their active and

1:46.8

athletic goals. Sounds familiar. So she took a dive into all things training during perimenopause and

1:54.7

started programming for 40 plus women specifically. Through her cycling success system,

2:00.6

Marissa focuses on proper fueling, strength

2:03.0

development, and smart exercise programming so women can climb hills, stronger, ride farther,

2:08.9

and at faster average speeds, and really just have the energy to do it day after day.

2:14.4

And we talk about it all this week. And whether or not you're a cyclist,

2:18.7

this just applies to all active women across the board. You can learn more about Marissa and her

2:25.1

practice at AXN Fitness and Coaching.com. I will put a link in the show notes to make that easy to find.
