As you've most certainly heard by now, Queen Elizabeth II has passed away.

It is an enormous moment. But the second has passed away.

It is an enormous moment.

Her reign spanning more than 70 years was the longest in British history and covered a remarkable

set of transitions in the world.

In that time period, the British Empire collapsed.

Society in the UK was transformed.

There have been multiple technological revolutions,

radio, television, the internet, and enormous schisms within the royal family itself,

bringing its very existence into question.

And yet, through all of it, the monarchy as personified by Queen Elizabeth has held firm as a symbol of power and stability to many people around the world.
