Once upon a time, there lived an old man, an old woman, and their grandson.

It was close to the holiday season and the weather was becoming a bit chillier.

So they decided to bake some fresh bread to go with their soup for supper.

Once the bread was ready to go in the oven, the old woman realized there was a bit left over.

Let's make some gingerbread, shall we?

She said to her grandson. The little boy was very excited.

Make a gingerbread man, Grandmama! He begged. And she did.

She cut a little gingerbread man out of the dough

the old woman told her grandson

it was his job to decorate him

the little boy put two black currants

for his eyes

a little red cherry for his nose

an apple slice for his smiley mouth, and three grapes for the

three buttons on his shirt. Once the boy was done, they put the gingerbread man in the oven.

The old woman went outside to tend to the sheep, while the old man plucked potatoes from the ground.

The little boy, hungry as ever, waited by the oven.

Finally, the gingerbread man was ready.

But before the boy could open the oven door,

the gingerbread man jumped up and the oven door flew open.

Out he jumped.
