Summary

There’s nothing more practical than getting to know the true God of the Bible— because everything we do wrong and every experience of inordinate anxiety or anger or pride always comes because, at that moment, we’re forgetting who God really is. In this passage from Exodus 3, we see the first time in the Bible when somebody says to God, “Who are you?” God shows us that he is not an ineffable, indefinable force, but a God with a name. We will see that he is the God of 2) Brilliant delay; 2) Fiery reality; 3) Absolute sufficiency; and 4) Mysterious nearness. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on November 21, 2010. Series: To Know the Living God – The God Who Can Be Known. Scripture: Exodus 3:1-14. 0:21.6	The scripture this morning is from Exodus chapter 3 verses 1 through 14.
0:28.7	Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and
0:33.9	he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horib, the mountain of God.
0:39.8	There, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush.
0:47.5	Moses saw that though the bush was on fire, it did not burn up.
0:54.1	So Moses thought I will go over and see this strange sight why the bush does not burn
1:00.7	up.
1:02.3	When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush.
1:08.0	Moses, Moses, and Moses said, here I am, do not come any closer, God said.
1:18.3	Take off your sandals for the place where you are standing is holy ground.
1:24.4	Then he said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the
1:30.7	God of Jacob.
1:32.9	At this, Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.
1:39.7	Lord said, I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt.
1:45.5	I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers and I am concerned about their
1:50.6	suffering.
1:52.1	So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them out,
1:58.3	bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk
2:05.6	and honey.
