It's easy to forget the interrelated intricate histories of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam,

and noting that through lines from Judaism directly to Islam can serve as a starting point

for healing almost entirely modern divisions.

Mustafa Aikio is author of the new book, The Islamic Moses.

We spoke last week.

Mustafa, I am a Christian. You are a Muslim.

When I think about how it is the thumbnail sketch that we get of Abrahamic faiths you get

first there was Judaism then there was Christianity and then there was Islam.

And so when you think about the Judeo-Christian Islamic world, typically it's reduced to Judeo-Christian, at

least for Americans. But we don't hear almost anything about Judeo-Islam or Judeo-Islamic traditions.

But the moment you are confronted with that notion, a lot of it becomes pretty obvious.

And I'm thinking about just just in terms of food and circumcision just the the

connections between Islam and Judaism we take a much broader view and not just looking at the last

hundred years or so of history and religious conflict, the relationships between Muslims and Jews have been

strong at times in tolerant, extremely tolerant at times.

And I think your book does a really good job of helping us understand why a lot of the conflict that we see today is not rooted in

traditions that have existed and ought to be more appreciated by both Jews and

Muslims. Well thank you Caleb for putting that out you're absolutely right. In America most people are used to hearing this term

Judeo-Christian, Judeo-Christian tradition or Judeo-Christian values. That's of course, a valuable way to define the connection between the two religions.
