We're diving back into the mailbag today as we continue to unpack the Oscar nominations.

We're also going to discuss our thoughts on the state of the best picture race and particularly how it has shifted over the past week.

Because since our podcast episode went up on Thursday, guys, there was a scandal that broke out involving

Amelia Perez star and nominee, Carlos Sophia Gascon, who is the first openly transgender

actor to ever be nominated for an Oscar.

That milestone has unfortunately been, I think it's safe to say, tarnished by past posts on X, formerly Twitter that have been uncovered that range from Islamophobic in nature to racist to offensive toward pretty much any group you can think of.

It's a pretty disturbing array of posts from the last five or six years. They don't date back

too far. She has apologized several times in various ways since the scandal broke out. It seems like

she's increasingly on her own with this. We learned that Netflix was not involved, for example,

in an interview that Carla did with

CNN, Espaniol over the weekend. It was nearly an hour long, and it ranged from a bit incoherent

to very emotional. I'm not sure where things are with her right now. It seems a little unclear.

But before we get into the nitty-gritty

of it, how did you guys react to what unfurled over the weekend?

I can't remember the last time there was this rapid of a falling apart after nominations,

like this big of a scandal that happened so quickly.

It was just like I couldn't believe how fast it sort of all unraveled.

And it was pretty bad.
