Summary

The gospel insists on putting two things together that no other religion tries to put together, that all other human categories of thought insist is impossible. How is it possible to have both law and grace in your life? It’s a striking apparent contradiction. In fact, if it doesn’t create some tension in you, you’ll never experience the glorious release Christianity can give. I’d like to pose the central question Paul asks in Galatians 3: is the law opposed to grace? I’d like to show you 1) the significance of the question and 2) the significance of the answer. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 25, 1998. Series: Galatians: New Freedom, New Family. Scripture: Galatians 3:19–29. 0:55.0	Absolutely not. For if a law had been given that could impart life,

1:03.0	But the scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin,
1:07.0	so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ,
1:11.0	might be given to those who believe. faith in So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we may be justified by faith.
1:26.7	Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.
1:32.0	You are all sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ, for all of you who are
1:36.1	baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
1:48.0	If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise.
1:54.3	This is the word of the Lord.
1:57.6	We've been looking at Galatians chapter 3 and it's really, we've been going through the
2:00.5	book of Galatians and it's actually a very hard chapter.
2:04.2	It's the kind of chapter that does need at a certain point a time to stand back and make sure we don't miss the forest for the trees.
