I'm Bob Carlson, and this is Unfictional.

Unfictional is KCRW's program of stories and original documentaries.

It's a part of KCRW's independent

producer project and today on the program an episode of two stories that's called

The Mark of a Man. Later in the program it's a story about a guy who's looking to make his mark as a man,

but in this first story, the mark represents a life of mistakes and regret and someone's

looking to get it erased.

The story was originally produced for the Transom Story Workshop out of Woods Hole in Massachusetts,

where beginning radio producers learn techniques and skills from veteran producers.

Woods Hole is a beautiful place of course.

It's on the harbor, fairies going back and forth to Martha's Vineyard.

It's a center for marine science research.

But for a already been interviewed several times for other stories.

Well, last fall, a transom student named Emily Shao had a deadline approaching

and she was looking for a good idea.

I was actually a little bit behind schedule. Some story ideas I had weren't working out.

So she did what a lot of people do when they're searching for something.

She looked on Craigslist.

Throughout the workshop, I had been checking Craigslist pretty regularly.

Just in case I saw something that caught my eye,
