April 26th, 2018.

Joseph Paul Moore is a cattle rancher in Park County, Colorado.

On that day, his friend Patrick Fransy said something to him that stopped him in his tracks.

They started off as friends and when Joseph caught sight of Patrick's ability as a within Patrick. It wasn't immediately apparent to Joseph. It didn't arise when the men were

alone together. There was a side of Patrick that emerged when he was in the company of his girlfriend,

Kelsey Berreth.

In November 2016, Kelsey helped Patrick move some calves on Joseph's Ranch.

Kelsey was experienced in her own right, but not with calves,

and Patrick was impatient and frustrated with her.

Commenting on this Joseph said, of course I've lost my temper too, it happens, but I would never talk to anyone the way Patrick spoke to

Kelsey. He yelled at her, cursed at her, and berated her just terribly.

Joseph saw Kelsey with Patrick on one other occasion.

It wasn't even apparent how close they had become, though Patrick did refer to her as his girlfriend.

One day Patrick opened up a little more to Joseph about the nature of his relationship with Kelsey. As Joseph noted,

then one day Patrick turned to me and said,

Kelsey was pregnant, not is pregnant, but was pregnant. I just stopped and looked at him.

There was something in his tone of voice and his choice of words that let me know more was coming.

It was kind of like the wine of an artillery shell in one of those war movies that you hear before the explosion.

Finally, Patrick said to me, I didn't even know she was pregnant, not until she was giving birth. Now I've got a little girl.

Another disturbing exchange emerged one day while they were shooing horses.

Patrick looked over at Joseph and said, he was having trouble with somebody.
