The I'm Bidipolitan. The subject of my investigation is the murder of nursing student Lakin Riley, who was attacked one morning while going for a run on campus.

Now, this story struck a lot of nerves with Americans because of who Lakin is and who her alleged killer is.

Here's the story.

Laken Riley was a 22-year-old nursing student at Augusta University in Athens, Georgia.

Lakin had recently transferred from the neighboring University of Georgia because she wanted to be a nurse.

Lakin was also a runner.

She competed in cross-country in high school and continued running recreationally in college.

On February 22nd, she decided to take a morning run.

She headed over to the running paths near the intramural fields in Lake Herrick on the UGA campus.

When she did not return from her morning run, her roommate called police.

Lakin's body was found less than an hour later near Lake Herrick.

The initial investigation revealed she died from blunt force trauma and her skull was disfigured.

Investigators worked quickly and identified a suspect through surveillance video, which showed a

suspect wearing a very specific hat. The next day they located a man fitting the

description who was wearing the hat. That suspect, Diego Ibarra, was detained for having a fake

green card but not implicated in Lakin's abduction and murder. Instead, investigators arrested

his brother, Jose Ibarra, who also entered the country illegally
