The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and he's joined by his brother Jonathan Nolan, you might recognize from his TV shows

person of interest certainly Westworld. He also helped his brother with

Minto and he's the showrunner of Amazon's new fallout, which I quite enjoy.

It's based on The Prestige by Christopher Priest.
