Well, welcome back to another episode of five minutes in church history. You know this is an incredibly important year, 2017.

This is the year we celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

So we'll be spending a lot of time with the Reformation, especially as we get into October.

Why not, right?

So let's talk about a place where the Reformation did not make that significant of an enroad.

As you look across the countries of Europe,

you realize that some of the countries, Germany obviously,

the Swiss city states, obviously over in the UK,

the Reformation did very well.

But there were some places in Europe

where the Reformation just was not

able to penetrate to those depths.

And one of those places was Spain.

But this does not mean that Spain was without a reformation

or without the reformers influence.

Well, let's take a look at this.

One of the folks in Spain that was a significant figure

in the reformation was Juan de Valdez.

He was born in 1490.

And in the 1520s, he came in contact with both the writings of Erasmus and the humanism of Erasmus, and he came in contact with the teachings of Martin Luther.

This led him to write his book in 1529, Dialogue on Christian Doctrine.
