Many people have heard of the satanic panic.

Peaking in the 1980s and 90s, conspiracy theories spread throughout the country

that mass child abuse was being carried out on a large scale by satanic cults.

Despite the countless accusations of satanic ritual abuse,

investigations turned up very little evidence that it was actually happening.

In a survey of more than 11,000 psychiatric and police workers throughout the country, conducted

for the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect, researchers found more than 12,000 accusations of group cult sexual abuse based on satanic ritual, but not one that investigators had been able to substantiate.

What the organization did find was that there were individual cases of people claiming

satanic ritual in order to carry out evil acts.

That was what happened when three teenage boys were frustrated

that their heavy metal band wasn't succeeding.

So they decided to make the ultimate bargain

with the devil, sacrificing a virgin.
