In October of 2014, a housekeeper arrived at the house of the Ruby family where she had

worked for 20 years.

Once inside, she found three of those family members lying dead on the floor.

When investigators arrived, they realized that three of the four members of the Ruby family

were dead, but their

son, Alan Ruby, was not there. Like most cases were all but one family member is killed,

Alan became the main suspect, and it wouldn't take long for everything to come crashing down

around him. This is Monsters. Alan Hrube was born on May 8, 1995 to John and Joy Ruby.

He grew up in Duncan, Oklahoma, and had a younger sister named Catherine.

The Ruby family was well known and respected in their community. John 50 owned a successful

local newspaper and stood as a pillar of Oklahoma journalism, serving as vice president of the

Oklahoma Press Association Foundation. His wife, 48-year-old Joy, whose nickname was Tinker,

and their teenage daughter, Catherine, just 17, completed the family portrait that Alan would

shatter forever. Alan attended a private high school and eventually enrolled at the University of

Oklahoma to study political science.

Catherine did well in school, both academically and in sports. She was a star player on her

high school volleyball team. From an early age, Alan displayed behaviors that hinted at troubling

patterns. Materialism, an insatiable desire for status and irresponsible

financial habits. Obsessed with the appearance of wealth, Alan lived beyond his means, indulging in

expensive vacations, luxurious shopping sprees, and designer goods. But there was one critical problem. Those extravagant

pursuits were funded by lies, debts, and the family wealth he so desperately sought to possess
