How's it going? It's going well. So today we are talking about the lying media,

the failing mainstream media, the very sad mainstream media, and what it means for our failing and sad society.

I mean I think it's interesting that you put it that way because we did talk about this

with Victor. The Victor Picard is the interview guest of this episode and he wrote a book called Democracy Without Journalism

Question Mark and you know he's sort of making a left defense of journalism not of the media as it currently exists but of journalism as a public service and a public good that ought to be publicly

funded and publicly controlled, which makes him a perfect guest for this show where we believe

that about a lot of different things. But yeah, I mean, we do have to tackle the problem on the left, which is that the media has done us wrong over and over. The mainstream media has certainly not treated us well and so you know I think the people on the left are a little bit

annoyed by the thin whatever colored line the idea that the press democracy dies in darkness all of that

all of that kind of the the press or the true hero stuff that has happened in response

to Donald Trump's anti-press crusade.

And obviously we just need to forge our own path.

I mean, we can't end up citing with people

who are actually cheering on the collapse of journalism, which is a really critical and

important pillar of a functioning society. We have to figure out how the left ought to

relate to the question of journalism and I think Victor really helps us think through that.

Yeah I mean I go back and forth on this question which you'll hear in the interview

itself I mean on the one, I have no love for the mainstream media and came up in

left politics at a time, which as Victor also mentions, this is sort of like knee jerk leftist,

anarchisty, like, you know, burn down the media.
