Well, welcome back to another episode of five minutes in church history. We have been making our way through Luther's life and once again, as with many of our episodes, we are on location.

And this time we are in Vittenberg and we are in a very particular place in Vittenberg we are in the

Corpus Christi Chapel. This chapel is located right next to St Mary's Church

and the importance of this chapel is that after Luther posted his

95 theses and if you've ever looked at them you realize that Luther was

looking for a debate and the debate actually happened in here after he posted

the 95 theses and it

happened with the University Faculty of Vittenberg and it happened with his fellow

monks at the Augustinian Monastery just about a half a kilometer away. In

this chapel and here's where we are sitting to talk about what I like

to call the Wittenburg Five. Sometimes we think of Luther as this sole reformer, this

hero is making the reformation happen.

And to a certain extent that's true.

But there's also a sense in which Luther was not alone

that he had associates and we need to pay attention to them as well.

I call them the Wittenburg five.

The fifth one, of course, is Luther himself.

The first one is Nicholas Spun-Omsdorf.

Omsdorf was born in the same year as Luther.

1483.

He was born in Torgau and in 1502 he became among the first entering

student body of the University of Wittenberg. It opened its doors in 1502 and Omsdorf was counted among its first students.
