And on today's podcast, we celebrate the bear's

sports science coordinator and dietitian Jennifer Gibson. David Kaplan interviews Gibson on her career

arc and being the first full-time member of the football operational staff. So without further ado,

here's David Kaplan with Jennifer Gibson. Jen Gibson, who is a dietician, sports science coordinator for the Chicago Bears,

handles obviously all their nutrition.

Jen, thank you for taking time.

What exactly do you do game day and non-game day to help the Chicago Bears?

Well, it really starts at kind of every end of the spectrum when it comes to athlete health

and wellness and logistics.

In terms of the nutrition side of things, I organize, I call it planning a wedding every day

because we're essentially feeding 150 to 300 people at

Hallis Hall and when we're on the road. So from a logistics perspective, it's making sure that that is

all under control and happening. And then as you dive down into like the individual level with each

of our guys, each of our guys is battling with either a weight gain, a weight loss, a weight

maintenance. Maybe they've got

some hydration issues. So kind of diving down on the individual level with what's going on

on our guys each day, taking care of them before, during an after practice. And then on the,

on the technology and science side, we track our guys with GPS at every practice. So kind of looking at what they did that day,

understanding the data, and then communicating anything that's important about that practice

up to our coaches. So I broadcast for the Cubs for 25 years. I was their radio TV pre and post game
