One of the most important things you can figure out as a Christian is how to deal with sins.

Your own sins, sins committed against you, the sins of friends, and sins committed against them, and more.

We all wrestle with sin and the effects of sin in ourselves, our families, our churches, our friendships, and the world.

As Paul teaches us in Galatians, part of our Christian duty even is to help one another

climb out of the mire of sin when we are caught in them, to restore one another in a spirit of

gentleness and humility. But more and more, our culture is teaching us not to deal with sins

through the means God has appointed in his grace, but to turn to therapeutic solutions.

Therapeutic pastoral counseling, therapeutic friendships, therapeutic everything.

It's all about our trauma, our pasts, our family history, our personality types, on and on and on.

But the rise of therapy culture has not brought a rise in happiness, health, wellness, or

holiness. In her recent book, Bad Therapy, Why the Kids Aren't Growing Up, Abigail Schreier noted

the effects of this therapeutic movement in great detail. She writes,

The mental health establishment has successfully sold a generation on the idea that vast

numbers of them are sick.

Less than half of Gen Ziers believe their mental health is good. They do not believe mental

health is something that arises typically in the normal course of a balanced life, but like a

boxwood tree requires constant tending by the gardener you hire to prune it. The rising generation has received more therapy than any prior generation.

Nearly 40% of the rising generation has received treatment from a mental health professional,

compared with 26% of Gen Xers.

42% of the rising generation currently has a mental health diagnosis, rendering normal, increasingly

abnormal. One in six U.S. children age two to eight years old, has a diagnosed mental,

behavioral, or developmental disorder. More than 10% of American kids have an ADHD diagnosis.
