Hello Unfictional listeners. This is Bob Carlson, host of Unfictional. I'm very happy to present a project that is not exactly an unfictional episode, but it's the premiere of a brand new podcast collaboration between

UnFictional and KCRW's Lost Notes Podcast and it's a project I've been working on

for the last two or three years on and off.

It's called Bent by Nature,

Dirdra O'Donohue, and the Lost Snap Archives.

And it's about the most influential radio

DJ maybe you've never heard of.

Snap was a radio show that was particularly well known

for its memorable live performances.

And this is a project that's close to me.

I was a recording engineer on Snap during the earliest

days of my career and I was kind of an audio zealic and witnessed and recorded dozens of

bands that played live on Deardre's show.

Some you've heard of and some you should hear.

It was an interesting time for organic and emotional indie pop music,

and Deardre O'Donoughue was the

charismatic den mother of the scene in Los Angeles. She was super smart and

literary and she had a mysterious side and a dark side. The reason this project took so long is that we went

through boxes and boxes of archive tapes listening to hundreds of shows. I was

restoring real-to-reel tapes with a food dehydrator. Look it up, it's a thing.

We've also interviewed Deirdre's friends and some of the musicians who played on Snap. The first two episodes are made like unfictional

episodes and they introduce you to Deirdre in the world of Snap. The whole
